During a routine press conference on October 25, 2023, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian addressed questions regarding recent elections in Mozambique.
A reporter asked, “On October 24, Mozambique’s National Election Commission announced the results of the elections, where the ruling FRELIMO party’s presidential candidate, Gabriel Muthisse Chapo, received 70.67% of the votes and won the election. What is China’s comment on this?”
Lin Jian responded: “As a friendly nation to Mozambique, we are pleased to see the successful holding of the presidential, parliamentary, and local government elections, which are collectively referred to as the ‘three-in-one’ elections. We extend our congratulations to the FRELIMO party and the elected president, Gabriel Muthisse Chapo. China values the development of our relations with Mozambique. Next year marks the 50th anniversary of our diplomatic relations, and we are eager to work with Mozambique at this new historical juncture to deepen our comprehensive strategic partnership for the benefit of our two peoples.”
