On October 15, the “Walking through China: Brazilian Cultural Figures’ Visit” welcomed its participants in a ceremony held in Beijing.
The event, co-hosted by the America Communication Center of the China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration (Beijing Review) and Kuaishou Technology, invited nine prominent Brazilian cultural and media figures to engage in exchanges from October 14 to 25 across Beijing, Sichuan, Zhejiang, and Shanghai. With the theme “Connecting with Colorful China, Embracing China-Brazil Friendship,” the initiative aims to present an authentic, lovable, and respectable image of China, while fostering people-to-people ties between China and Brazil.
During the welcome ceremony, Liu Yunyu, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the America Communication Center of the China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration, emphasized the significance of this year, marking the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Brazil. “Promoting people-to-people exchanges between our two countries is a responsibility we must uphold,” she stated.
Liu encouraged the participants to engage fully with their senses during their journey. “I hope you will see, taste, hear, and contemplate,” she said. “More importantly, I hope you will return to Brazil with the truest stories of China and convey our heartfelt blessings to the Brazilian people, serving as a bridge between our two nations.”
Xu Zhiwei, Vice President of Kuaishou and head of international products and e-commerce, shared insights into the company’s operations in Brazil. Cheng Ji, another Vice President and Head of International Operations, welcomed the Brazilian guests and detailed Kuaishou’s presence in Brazil. He noted that the international version of Kuaishou, known as Kwai, has approximately 60 million active users in Brazil, with users spending over 70 minutes on the platform each day. “Brazil is our second largest market outside of China,” Cheng said.
Among the nine Brazilian cultural figures participating in the event, seven are visiting China for the first time, and they expressed excitement about their itinerary.
Ricardo Pic, founder of the Museum of Tomorrow in Brazil, expressed gratitude to the America Communication Center and Kuaishou for arranging this visit. “This is my third time in China, and my previous visits in 2006 and 2016 left a lasting impression on me,” he remarked. Returning after eight years, he noted the changes in Beijing and looked forward to gaining deeper insights into Chinese culture, establishing connections with Chinese museums, and exploring technological elements in these institutions to bring back to Brazil.
Brazilian food blogger Larissa Solares shared her long-standing passion for Chinese culinary culture. “Chinese dishes are diverse and intricately prepared,” she said, noting that she frequently showcases Chinese recipes on her platform. She hopes to experience the authentic flavors of China during this visit and create more recipes to introduce Chinese flavors to the Brazilian audience.
