On October 9, 2024, the Central Political and Legal Affairs Commission of China announced its list of heroic individuals recognized for their extraordinary courage during the third quarter of 2024. This announcement was made through the official WeChat account “Chang’an Jian.” Following a comprehensive evaluation based on online popularity and recommendations from local organizations, 52 individuals were honored with the title of “brave warriors.”
Among the noteworthy honorees are the late Luan Liwei, Zhao Jin, Li Qingxue, Xia Chuanfeng, Miao Jian, Xie Fuqiang, and Wei Zhihui, who tragically lost their lives while fearlessly rescuing others in danger. Other heroes like Liu Xinyi, Zhang Weijian, and Zhang Meng demonstrated remarkable bravery by standing up against criminal activities. Their valor—and in some cases, the ultimate sacrifice they made—was integral to maintaining the safety and security of their communities, creating a formidable shield for societal harmony. Their acts of bravery captured significant attention, trending across multiple media platforms between July and September, with many making the top three on hot news lists. Luan Liwei’s story, for instance, amassed over 1.5 billion views, leading numerous netizens to pay their respects at the hotpot restaurant he ran with his wife in Beijing. Likewise, Li Qingxue’s narrative received over 800 million views, prompting the Liaoning Provincial Committee to encourage local party members to follow in his footsteps, while the provincial government recognized him as a “Hero of Valor in Liaoning.”
The selection of these brave warriors is conducted quarterly by the Central Political and Legal Affairs Commission and is coordinated by the China Heroic Actions Foundation. Since September 2022, there have been eight such announcements, collectively honoring 440 heroic individuals.
