On October 22, in Beijing, Song Tao, the Director of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council, met with Liu Zhaoxuan, Chairman of the Foundation for the Sustainable Development of Chinese Culture, along with other representatives from Taiwan’s cultural community who attended the first Strait Cultural Summit.

In his remarks, Song emphasized the commitment to deeply implement General Secretary Xi Jinping’s significant speeches on Taiwan affairs and the spirit of the 20th CPC Central Committee’s third plenary session. He underscored the importance of promoting cultural exchanges across the Strait and collectively advancing Chinese culture. “Both sides of the Strait belong to one China, and Chinese culture is the spiritual root and sense of belonging for our compatriots on both sides,” he stated. He called for support for individuals in Taiwan’s cultural sector to counteract “cultural Taiwan independence,” strengthen the emotional connection between compatriots on both sides, solidify confidence in Chinese culture, and contribute powerful spiritual resources to the comprehensive advancement of national strength and the revitalization of the nation, ultimately achieving new glory for Chinese culture in the process of national reunification.

Liu Zhaoxuan expressed his views on the fundamental connection that Chinese culture represents for both sides of the Strait, which has become ingrained in the hearts of the Taiwanese people. He voiced concerns over Taiwan’s “de-Sinicization” and advocated for enhanced cultural exchanges to deepen mutual understanding, promote the values and wisdom of Chinese culture, and strengthen the foundation for peaceful development across the Strait.
