On October 24, a report from the “Lhasa Release” WeChat account highlighted recent actions taken by the Lhasa Market Supervision Bureau in response to concerns raised by users on social media regarding exorbitant oxygen prices. The bureau has mobilized resources across the city’s market regulation system to conduct a series of surprise inspections in the oxygen market, and they are now providing feedback to the public.
As it stands, the current prices for oxygen in Lhasa are as follows: a 40-liter steel cylinder refills for 90 to 100 yuan, while other sizes such as 15 liters cost around 70 yuan, 10 liters are priced at 50 yuan, 7 liters go for 40 yuan, and 4 liters at 30 yuan. Additionally, the 40×30 specification oxygen bags range from 45 to 50 yuan, and disposable pressurized oxygen bottles are priced between 15 to 25 yuan. For carbon fiber high-pressure oxygen tanks, the prices are set at 50 yuan for 1.6 liters and 70 yuan for 2.0 liters.
Investigations have revealed that there is a significant lack of transparency regarding the pricing of carbon fiber high-pressure oxygen tanks in Lhasa. As this is a relatively new product, public understanding and awareness of its price range are minimal. Consequently, market sellers have adopted varying prices, which has prevented the establishment of a standardized industry rate and has led to the emergence of “sky-high oxygen prices.”
Moving forward, the Market Supervision Bureau will enhance its oversight of all oxygen suppliers in the city. They plan to regularly inform the public about oxygen prices, ensure that the complaint and reporting channel (12315) is easily accessible, and will strictly crack down on illegal pricing practices in the oxygen market. They aim to publicize notable cases in order to uphold price order and protect the legal rights of consumers.
