Hyundai Motor’s global vehicle production exceeds 100 million units, setting an important milestone

Hyundai Motor Company has recently celebrated an impressive achievement by reaching the milestone of producing over one hundred million vehicles worldwide. This significant feat comes just 57 years after the company’s establishment, marking Hyundai as one of the fastest-growing brands in the automotive sector. To commemorate this occasion, Hyundai hosted a special ceremony at its Ulsan plant in South Korea.

At the event, the company took a moment to express gratitude to its devoted customers by officially handing over the 100,001st vehicle—an IONIQ 5—to its proud new owner. The ceremony also featured a commemorative display, which represents Hyundai’s commitment to its legacy while highlighting its ongoing focus on human-centered innovative technologies.

Jaehoon Chang, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor Company, shared his thoughts on this historic moment: “Achieving this global production milestone of one hundred million vehicles is a tremendous accomplishment for Hyundai. We owe this success to the unwavering support and trust from our customers worldwide. Our relentless pursuit of innovation and our readiness to push boundaries have driven our rapid growth as we now set our sights on the next hundred million vehicles.”

The Ulsan plant, which commenced operations in 1968, plays a crucial role in the history of the South Korean automotive industry and has evolved into a hub for electrification, featuring specialized facilities dedicated to electric vehicles.

Dong Seock Lee, President and Domestic Production Head, as well as Chief Safety Officer at Hyundai Motor, remarked, “Every employee at Hyundai has played an integral role in reaching this remarkable milestone of one hundred million vehicles through their hard work and commitment. This achievement is our first step toward becoming leaders in the future of electrification.”

Hyundai’s growth trajectory has been bolstered by the launch of its premium brand Genesis, the high-performance N brand, and the IONIQ 5 electric vehicle, which is built on a dedicated Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). Additionally, the company is strategically expanding its global footprint with manufacturing facilities in Turkey, India, the United States, and the Czech Republic, achieving unprecedented success.

Last year, Hyundai unveiled a global innovation center in Singapore, introducing an ambitious new concept focused on smart city mobility hubs. The advanced manufacturing platforms and cutting-edge technologies being developed, including applications of artificial intelligence and robotics, will be applied in future facilities such as the Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America to enhance production efficiency.

In North America, Hyundai offers a range of technology-rich vehicles, SUVs, and electric cars. The company operates its North American headquarters in California, an automobile manufacturing plant in Alabama, a new facility in Georgia, and several state-of-the-art research and development centers. According to a recent economic impact report, these operations, along with 835 independent dealerships, contribute $20.1 billion to the U.S. economy and support the creation of 190,000 jobs.
