On October 25th, the Cross-Strait (Wuhan) New Energy and Intelligent Connected Vehicle Industry Integration Development Exchange Conference took place in Wuhan. Over 300 representatives from organizations such as the Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers’ Association and the Taiwan Industrial Association gathered with mainland automobile manufacturers and key automotive parts suppliers for a day of networking and collaboration.
Zheng Fuxiong, Vice Chairman of the Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers’ Association, highlighted the vast market potential for new energy vehicles in mainland China, which boasts a robust supply chain and comprehensive infrastructure. He noted Taiwan’s strong capabilities in technological innovation and advanced production management within the fields of precision machinery, information electronics, semiconductors, and automotive parts, indicating a complementary relationship and broad prospects for cooperation between the two regions.
Wuhan is recognized as a key base for new energy and intelligent connected vehicles on the mainland. In September 2023, the Wuhan Automobile Industry Association, along with the Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers’ Association and other civic organizations, initiated the establishment of the Cross-Strait (Wuhan) Vehicle Technology Innovation Alliance. This alliance aims to integrate the advanced technological resources of Taiwan’s automotive electronics industry with the vehicle and electronic component sectors in Wuhan to foster collaborative development.
According to Chen Hongqin, the rotating president of the alliance and chairman of the Dongguan Taiwan Association, nearly 100 automotive industry chain companies from both sides have already joined the alliance. This includes participants from areas such as automotive electronics, chip design, power management, components, and equipment. Members are focused on deepening collaborations in technology research and development, product innovation, and market expansion, resulting in a series of cooperative achievements.
During the exchange conference, Dongfeng Research Institute signed a strategic cooperation agreement for “R&D Collaboration” with the Cross-Strait (Wuhan) Vehicle Technology Innovation Alliance. This partnership will utilize the alliance’s integration capabilities to organize joint research and development projects between leading Taiwanese companies in integrated circuits, software systems, and automotive electronics and Dongfeng Research Institute, guiding Taiwanese enterprises into the Dongfeng automotive parts supply chain.
Chen Hongqin also mentioned that the alliance plans to continue its efforts in technology commercialization, scaling up, business incubation, and attracting investment and talent. The goal is to reach a membership of 200 units by the end of 2025, further exploring cooperative mechanisms in the automotive industry across the strait.
