Customs clearance of goods is -open-; freight in and out of Guangzhou port is booming during the National Day holiday_1

On October 8, representatives from Guangzhou Customs highlighted the remarkable surge in cargo traffic at the Guangzhou port during the National Day holiday. Between October 1 and 7, Nansha Customs, under the Guangzhou Customs umbrella, oversaw a total of 11,900 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) valued at more than 600 million RMB. The key imports and exports during this period included automobiles, bulk commodities, and petrochemical products.

“During the National Day holiday, we implemented a variety of measures to ensure the seamless passage of import and export goods,” emphasized Yang Fajia, Deputy Director of the Comprehensive Business Section at Nansha Customs. “We provided around-the-clock customs clearance support, which allowed businesses to save time and enhance their efficiency.”

To ensure a consistent supply of fresh poultry to Hong Kong throughout the holiday, Foshan Customs, also a part of the Guangzhou Customs, rolled out a holiday appointment inspection mechanism. This initiative enabled prioritized declarations, inspections, and testing, resulting in improved freshness for poultry shipments. During the holiday, Foshan Customs issued 19 inspection and quarantine certificates for fresh poultry, amounting to over 102 tons of goods.

At the Guangzhou Baiyun Airport’s Comprehensive Bonded Zone, five sorting lines were activated on October 6 within the cross-border e-commerce direct purchase supervision warehouse. These bustling sorting lines linked the unloading areas directly to domestic delivery vehicles.

To effectively manage the spike in cross-border e-commerce traffic during the holiday, Baiyun Airport Customs proactively evaluated anticipated business volumes from e-commerce companies and crafted a tailored customs clearance support plan. They even adjusted their working hours to accommodate peak periods.

Miao Ruiqin, Deputy Director of the Emergency Supervision Division at Baiyun Airport Customs, explained that customs staff conducted daily monitoring of key operational indicators and collaborated with on-site technical personnel to ensure smooth system operations. Throughout the National Day holiday, they successfully processed over 120,000 import cross-border e-commerce lists.
