On October 22, the Guangdong Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision announced that, with the approval of the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee, they have launched an investigation into Chen Shaoxiong, the former Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and former Secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission at South China Agricultural University, for serious violations of discipline and law.
The investigation revealed that Chen Shaoxiong had lost his ideals and convictions, strayed from his original mission, and disregarded the spirit of the central government’s eight regulations by illegally accepting gifts. He violated the integrity standards expected of public officials by using his position to benefit his relatives. Additionally, he exploited his official capacity to profit others in project promotion and contract bidding, and illicitly received substantial amounts of money.
Chen Shaoxiong’s actions constituted serious breaches of the Party’s disciplinary standards, aligning with significant job-related violations and suspected bribery. Despite the Party’s 18th National Congress’s emphasis on integrity, Chen continued his misconduct, revealing a severe disregard for Party principles and causing considerable social impact.
As a result, following the review by the Guangdong Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection’s Standing Committee and with the approval of the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee, it was decided that Chen Shaoxiong would be expelled from the Party. The Guangdong Provincial Supervision Commission also resolved to terminate his public office, confiscate his ill-gotten gains, and transfer his suspected criminal activities to the prosecutorial authority for legal examination and prosecution, along with the related assets. The decision regarding Chen’s expulsion from the Party will be formally confirmed at the upcoming plenary session of the Guangdong Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection.
