On October 21, a report from the “Shuangshan Xiangshan Tourism Resort” WeChat account revealed a tragic incident involving four middle school students at Shuangshan Island. At approximately 2:35 PM on October 19, these students crossed a wave-breaking wall and ventured into a water area, where they became trapped due to rising tides.
As soon as the distress call was received, local authorities, including maritime services, police, health and emergency services, and fire rescue teams, mobilized to conduct a comprehensive search and rescue operation. Two of the students were rescued, while one was located on the morning of October 21 but unfortunately showed no signs of life. The search continues for the fourth student, who remains missing.
As of 1 PM on October 21, a total of 62 maritime patrol boats had been deployed, alongside eight escort boats, 30 tugboats, 16 ferries, and over 1,100 transit vessels participating in the rescue efforts. The ongoing challenge is compounded by the tidal conditions of the Yangtze River, which have made the search operation particularly difficult.
The resort has issued a reminder to visitors and residents alike to adhere to safety guidelines while enjoying the area. They urge everyone to avoid playing near dangerous zones such as rivers and lakes, emphasizing the importance of staying away from risky situations.
