In a recent exclusive interview, Linus Aleke reports from Abuja that the Nigerian Army has initiated an investigation into Brig. Gen. MA Sadiq, the former Commander of the 3 Brigade in Kano, in response to what officials are calling “administrative discrepancies.”
The Army announced that Brig. Gen. Sadiq has been relieved of his command in order to facilitate a thorough examination of the allegations leveled against him. Sources suggest that this inquiry may involve more significant administrative issues, particularly the alleged mismanagement of relief supplies, such as rice, intended for the officers and personnel under his leadership.
Maj. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, underscored the Army’s dedication to integrity, reaffirming that as a self-regulatory institution founded on principles of discipline, justice, and accountability, the Nigerian Army enforces a strict zero-tolerance policy towards indiscipline. He stated that any behavior that undermines the Army’s core values will be met with appropriate consequences.
“The Nigerian Army has been receiving a significant amount of media attention concerning Brig. Gen. MA Sadiq, the former Commander of the 3 Brigade in Kano, who is now the subject of a military investigation for administrative discrepancies during his time in command,” Nwachukwu explained. “As a result, this senior officer has been relieved of his duties to ensure a comprehensive investigation takes place.”
The Army has pledged to both internal and external stakeholders that the allegations will be thoroughly examined, and that suitable administrative actions will be taken based on the findings. In the interim, Brig. Gen. AM Tukur has been appointed as the new officer in charge of the brigade in Kano.
