A 15-year-old boy in Washington state is suspected of shooting five family members

On October 22, the first pretrial hearing took place in Seattle concerning a tragic mass shooting incident in Forks, Washington. A 15-year-old boy is accused of killing five family members.

According to reports from American media, including the Seattle Times, the shooting occurred early on the morning of October 21 in Forks, located in Clallam County. When police arrived at the scene, they discovered five people dead inside the home, comprising two adults and three minors. Additionally, a minor was injured and transported to a hospital for treatment.

The pretrial hearing on October 22 was held at the Juvenile and Family Justice Center in Seattle, with the suspect, a 15-year-old boy, currently being held at the King County Juvenile Detention Center. He waived his right to appear in court. A King County juvenile court judge noted that the charges against him are “potentially the most serious,” emphasizing that if released, the teen would pose “the highest risk to community safety.” The defense attorney mentioned that this boy has no prior criminal record.

Local media reported that the two adult victims were identified as 42-year-old engineer Mark Humeiston and his wife, Sarah Humeiston. The three minor victims were their children, and it is alleged that their 15-year-old son is responsible for this tragedy.

According to the Gun Violence Archive, over 13,700 individuals have lost their lives to various gun violence incidents in the U.S. as of October 22 this year.
