On October 23rd, reporters learned from the Jiangjin District Public Security Bureau in Chongqing that under the guidance of the Chongqing Municipal Public Security Bureau, local police conducted a year-long, meticulous investigation that led to the arrest of 35 criminal suspects in Guizhou. During the operation, they seized thousands of counterfeit finished Moutai liquor products. On October 22nd, the Jiangjin District Public Security Bureau, along with several departments, organized the destruction of over 10,000 bottles of fake “Moutai,” as well as associated counterfeit labels, boxes, ribbons, and color boxes.
In April 2021, Jiangjin police received intelligence regarding a vehicle transporting counterfeit liquor near a toll station in Lishi Town. Officers promptly arrived on the scene and confiscated over 700 counterfeit Moutai bottles, valued at over 800,000 RMB. Subsequently, a special task force was established by the Jiangjin District Public Security Bureau to further investigate the case.
As the investigation progressed, investigators from the Jiangjin Economic Crime Investigation Unit conducted several field investigations in Guizhou, revealing a criminal organization led by an individual named Wang. This group was heavily involved in the sale of counterfeit Moutai and extended their operations across 20 provinces and cities, including Guangdong, Shandong, Hubei, Henan, Hebei, and Chongqing.
In May 2022, the Jiangjin police mobilized over 60 experienced officers to Guizhou to execute a coordinated operation, resulting in the capture of 35 suspects. At the scene, police seized more than 10,000 counterfeit Moutai bottles, confiscated two production machines, and shut down two production and three storage locations. In addition, funds amounting to over 5.3 million RMB were frozen.
