On October 14th, the Chinese Mission to the European Union provided a response to the EU’s statement regarding Taiwan, emphasizing that the concept of “Taiwan independence” and peace in the Taiwan Strait are fundamentally incompatible. The mission urged the EU to take a clear stance against Taiwan independence if it genuinely cares about peace and stability in the region.
When asked about the statement made by the spokesperson for the EU External Action Service on the military exercises conducted by China in the waters surrounding Taiwan, a representative from the Chinese Mission replied, saying that these exercises are a decisive countermeasure against the provocative actions of the “Taiwan independence” separatist forces. The spokesperson reinforced that Taiwan is an inseparable part of China, and therefore, conducting military exercises in the waters near Taiwan is entirely justified.
The spokesperson also reiterated that the Taiwan issue is a matter of China’s internal affairs and should not be subjected to any external interference. They concluded by emphasizing that if the EU truly cares about peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, it must firmly oppose “Taiwan independence” and refrain from sending any misleading signals to separatist forces.
